After graduation from PHS I stayed in Pampa, got married and attended some classes at Frank Phillips Jr. College and later at Amarillo College. My first son Mike was born in 1959.  I began working for Humble Oil & Refining Company in Pampa in 1960, replacing an employee by the name of Martha Montgomery (Jackson).  Anyone remember her typing/bookkeeping classes at PHS?   They transferred me to Amarillo in 1962, working for the Petroleum Engineering Department.  I loved this job but when they moved their offices to Oklahoma City in 1965, I opted to stay in Amarillo (a little closer to home since I was now a single, working Mom.)  I was able to find employment as a secretary for IBM – great company!   In 1969 a fellow-IBMer and I were married (Roland Borden), and we transferred to the Dallas area.

In 1971 I concluded my job with IBM and became a full-time, at-home Mom.  Mike was twelve years old and glad not to be “farmed out” after school and other times.  I entered the not-so-well paying world of Volunteerism such as den mother, room mother and also learned to play tennis.  Actually, I became a tennis “bum” playing almost every day of the week!  (Also volunteered as league co-chairman one year at a local country club.)  However, the birth of Chris Borden dramatically changed my tennis schedule!  Then my volunteer jobs were involved with preschool, elementary school, etc.  One fun fact during this period of time was discovering that one of our neighbor’s names was Specht – Udo (Woody) and Yvonne.  Small world!  We still enjoy seeing them socially even though we’re no longer neighbors.

I still enjoy playing (doubles) tennis a couple of days a week, gardening and cooking.  I am active in church activities and the Richardson Woman’s Club.   Mike lives in Colorado and has two children (much too far away for grandchildren to be but a wonderful place to visit in August!)  Chris graduated from Baylor and lives in the Dallas area.  After my Dad passed on last October I moved my Mother to Dallas to be closer to us.  She now resides in an assisted living facility only ten minutes from our house, so I see her almost every day.  She greatly longs to return to her home in Pampa but is unable to take care of herself.  It’s difficult to leave her for long … hope I’ll be able to make it to the reunion but, if not, know you will have a wonderful time.  Blessings to all of you and especially Thera Lee’s family.
