After graduation, I went to Amarillo College, played basketball for a year and ended up in the Air Force to get out and see some new country ... ended up getting assigned to Amarillo Air Force Base nine months later. I spent the last two years of my four-year obligation in Wakkani, Japan in security service duty. I returned home after separation from service and
married my wonderful companion and wife of 40 years and
counting, Thelma Eddleman, from Silverton. We settled down in
Amarillo (just couldn't get away from there) until moving to Albuquerque
in 1964 where I was involved in a computer project for Bernallio
County. This led to a position in the computer department
of Eastern New Mexico University at Portales in 1966.
While at ENMU, I received my degree, and my vocation suddenly
became being involved in higher education administration. We lived
in Portales until 1973, at which time I accepted a position with
Clarendon College as Dean of Students and Registrar. While associated with
Clarendon College, I had the pleasure of being involved in
creating a college at Pampa, utilizing the facility of Sam
Houston Elementary. What an experience! Pampa is now blessed with a
new facility that is something for the community to be proud of .
Our college is named Clarendon-College, Pampa Center and I
encourage you to go by and see it when you are in
town. In 1979, I left the school business only to return in 1980 as Athletic Director at Pampa High School. Two years in that capacity spelled e-n-d for me in the school business. I entered into the world of automobile sales and planned on doing the business for 3 years until my youngest daughter graduated from PHS, at which time we were going to move to New Braunfels, Tx, open an art gallery and enjoy painting for the rest of my life. Twenty-one years later, here I am still in the automobile business. My wife is retired from ATMOS ENERGY and vows that we only need one retiree in our household. Now for the best stuff! I am still married and God has blessed my life in so many ways. He not only gave me a wonderful person to live and share my life with but also presented Thelma and myself with two very beautiful and wonderful daughters, who in return, blessed our lives with two outstanding (took awhile for me to accept and straighten them out) son-in-laws and 6 grandchildren (2 boys,4 girls). Everybody is healthy and God is head of each household. Now life can't be any better than that! I have had
two heart attacks, complete knee replacement.
My wife and kids says that I can't hear (even though I can hear
them tell me that!) and can't see without my glasses. My hobbies are
playing golf, gardening (flowers...not food and canning), and raising KOI/water
gardening. (KOI is a type of fish). WOW! Didn't mean to get so carried away, but you
know, 45 years passed so quickly, and it is hard to realize what all one
has done during that period of time. Always enjoy hearing from past classmates and look forward to seeing you in September.
50th Reunion Addendum As the years have been added, so has the number of pills taken daily and the foods eliminated that taste good. I just praise God that I am able to get up each day and enjoy what life has to offer. I am still working with no immediate plans to retire. Should I do so, my life would probably end shortly. I am a very hyper and restless individual which those around me would testify to. So, being as such and being married to a sweet lady that is not interested in me driving her crazy by hanging around the house ... it's off to work I go! Enjoy raising KOI and have three ponds in our back
yard. Golf, landscaping, working in the yard, and trout fishing are my
hobbies with golf and fishing not getting enough of my time. Our committee
has been working hard to put together a 50th reunion that we hope will be
very enjoyable to all that attend and I look forward to seeing
everyone once again. |
