I am very excited at the opportunity for us to all get together again.  It has been five years, so here is a little of what I have been up to.

After graduating from Pampa High School I married Jack Traywick, also a proud Harvester.  Jack Traywick and I had one son, Randall Traywick, who was born in Pampa.  As a very young family we cinched up our boots, pulled our hats a little tighter over our brows and followed an employment opportunity with Phillips Petroleum to Alvin, Texas and later to Austin, Texas.

Jack Traywick and I divorced, and eight years later I married Jack Hoover.  The similarities in names often kept me out of trouble.  Jack Hoover (from here on to be referred to as Jack) was the proud father of three girls.   An Oklahoma Sooner with a good eye for the future and the desire that we both had for a smaller community settled us in Round Rock, Texas.

Jack and I purchased an insurance agency that was established in 1938.  It is housed in the building on Main Street where the legendary bank robber Sam Bass was gunned down on its front steps.  Jack and I developed Round Rock Insurance and were very active in community events until he passed away in 1985.  I continued to run the agency and be involved in many aspects of this little town that exploded in growth and population (from 2500 to 75,000) until my retirement in 1996.  My parents (Dad is 102), son, stepdaughters, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren all live close, and we see each other often.  I still live in the house that Jack and I built but which I have recently sold because of encroaching developments.  I am actively … very actively … looking for land in this area to build a home that I will design with a little help from my friends.

In February of 2000 I received the shock of my life with a diagnosis of Stage III cancer …the big C … 50/50 chance to survive.   Great, some retirement!!  Realizing I face and deal with about the same odds each day driving up and down IH35 to Austin strengthened my resolve that I can do this!!  After about a year of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, I am pleased to say I have been in remission for over two years.  I have been very blessed and am thankful for each new day.

Now, each new day I try to fill with all those things that I want to do before I grow up.  I’ve started by joining a group comprised of ladies from all over the country called “Sister On The Fly”.  We go fly fishing in vintage travel trailers.  My little trailer is called Susie Q and has a huge Texas flag painted on the back, so if I pass you on some remote highway try to catch me.  Last year we fly-fished in Idaho, Wyoming and Montana in some of the most pristine rivers you can ever imagine.  Recently we all met in Arizona and went to Cowgirl College.  We camped in our little trailers at a beautiful ranch and learned to ride horses, rope and shoot rifles - what a hoot!!!!  I’m now in the process of restoring two little trailers for the next trip.

I have just joined the Texas Wood Carvers Guild and will be spending a week in Fredricksburg, Texas to try my hand at this new adventure.  No, I’m not going to spit as I whittle.  I do spit and cuss a little though on the golf course.

I love to go fishing on Lake Limestone.  I have a little place there where I find some quiet time to read and reflect.

I can’t wait to see each of you.

50th Reunion Update - August 2008

Hi everyone,

I’m sure I feel just like the rest of you … my how quickly five years have gone by!  I continue to enjoy good health and retirement. I’m finally in my new home and loving every minute of it. With my first cup of coffee each morning I’m blessed to watch wild turkey, birds, and deer.

My family continues to bring me joy and comfort. I have one new granddaughter to add to the previous four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. One of my granddaughters, Taryn, is a twirler for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and we try to make several games a year.

My travels and friendships I’ve made in the antique travel trailer groups (Sister’s on the Fly, and the National Scotty Association) is great fun. I have a trip planned in November to Arkansas for a Thanksgiving gathering. We always have such a good time fishing, horseback riding, etc… I have met some wonderful people and developed some true friendships in these groups.

I thank God for each day of my abundant life. I can’t wait to see each one of you, catch up on your past five years, and hear of your plans for the next five.

Take care,

Sue Hoover
