Mr. Smith's request, his body was donated to Texas Tech School of Medicine.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by
Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors.
BIOGRAPHY: Mr. Smith was born July 1, 1940 in Pampa to Irl and Irene Franklin
Smith and attended West Texas State University in Canyon, majoring in speech and
theater, and the Elkins Radio Institute in Dallas. He served in the U. S. Navy
during the Vietnam War. Dwayne began working in broadcasting at KFDA TV and KVII
TV in Amarillo, and then worked as newscaster and sportscaster for Coy Palmer at
KBMF FM in Spearman, which later became KRDF FM. He was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Pampa and the Aldersgate Sunday School Class. He was
a member of Top O' Texas Masonic Lodge #1381 in Pampa, served as Worshipful
Master of the Hansford Masonic Lodge #1040 in Spearman for 13 years, and was a
member of Gruver Masonic Lodge #1326. Dwayne was a past commander of the Borger
Chapter Council and Commandery and was a member of the Khiva Shrine Temple in
Amarillo and the Lubbock Scottish Rite Consistory. He loved theater and sports.
SURVIVORS: a sister: Rochelle Lacy and husband Calvin of Pampa; 2 nieces: Gail
Threet and husband Johnny of Lubbock and Glenna Bowman and husband Rick of
Austin; a nephew: Greg Wilkins and wife Pyeper of Rockwall; a cousin: Darrel K.
Franklin and wife Ann of Pampa; 3 aunts: Mae Louise Franklin of Pampa, Cleo Nix
of Groom and Ladine O'Connor of Sun City, Arizona; 1 uncle, Everett Butler of
Pampa; 2 step-nieces: Janet Bilyeu and husband John of Pampa and Debi Musick and
husband Roger of Weatherford, OK; 2 special friends: Carolyn Cummings and Cecil
Biggers, both of Spearman; and several other cousins, great-nieces and
great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Irl Marvin Smith, in
1994, and by his mother, Irene Franklin Smith, in 1996.

Additional Information: Roy Morriss from our class sent me an email note that said the following: "He had been at the VFW with his sister and brother-in-law and they left and he left later and someone found him sitting in his car in front of the VFW - apparent heart attack"
