Thank You Reunion Committee! What a great time! All of the attendees commend the entire committee for a job well done. We are aware that every successful event has a lot of people doing many, many things that might go unheralded, so all we can do is call attention to this fact and say THANK YOU. You should feel quite proud of yourselves.
Committee Members: Loyd Waters-Chairperson, Joy Vanderburg Rice-Secretary, Ralph Depee/Charles Ritthaler-Treasure, Members: Dianne Zachry Meaker, Maynette Loftus Scott, Frank Snow, Roy Morriss, Wayne (J.W.) Slater, Andy Epps, Melvin Wills, Margo Burgess Stanley, Karla Jo Cox Smith, John Mead, Jim Pendergrass and wife, Martha Gordon Tepera, and Mike Conway (View Local Committee Members)
For the benefit of those who weren't there, here are the people who were recognized publicly as well as some of the "happenings" that took place
Loyd Waters - Chairperson, Emcee, Talented Performer. Not many people, if any, could do what you do, and all of us salute you! Who but you could do what you do!
Martha Gordon Tepera - the decorations were first rate and added greatly to the decor and our enjoyment. (View Martha and Decorations)
Wayne Slater - the CD that you provided for all attendees and played during many of the meeting events was GREAT! And your contributions in the other areas - all we can say is THANK YOU. (View Wayne With CD in Operation)
Henry Atchison - the sound system you provided and ran did what you intended. We could hear everything! (View Henry Working at His Sound Table)
Karla (Cox) Smith - the presentation of those who have passed away was compassionate, sobering and truly an honorable thing. If I could have gotten the tears out of my eyes I might have been able to see others wiping theirs away.
Joy (Vanderburg) Rice - presented with a PHS letter jacket for her tireless contribution serving on the committee as secretary, registration chairwoman, etc. (View pictures of presentation and jacket)
Loyd Waters - Loyd was honored for his leadership and tireless work with an actual 45 rpm Elvis record, entitled, "All Shook Up". I think it was accompanied with a plaque something like 50th Reunion ... your 1958 Pampa High School Classmates. (View Loyd Doing His Thing)
Your webmaster, Mike Conway, was honored with a beautiful "Webmaster" plaque (View the Presentation)
Other events worthy of mention:
The Silent Auction was quite successful. (View Some of the Items). The silent auction raised $1505, and the Friday night auction raised $1650 in scholarship funds. Not a bad start!
The phone call to Priscilla Ann (Turnbo) Norris was both compassionate and appreciated by all. (Priscilla has cancer and is in a very serious condition)
$50-bill winners:
Carolyn (Schafer) James - traveled the greatest distance (~1800 miles) (View presentation) Beat out Margaret Derryberry-Bishop by 60 miles and Don Roy by about 100 miles ... as best as I remember the numbers)
Vicki Terrell - wife of Merle - lucky enough to sit in the right chair
Fred Epperly - door prize
Did I mention the good food every time we met? (View the spreads)
The golfing "expedition" took place but didn't hear any results
1) We voted to have the next reunion in 2013 in PAMPA, TEXAS! (Actually we voted it to be in 5 years but I'm aware that math may not be your forte).
2) We voted to begin a scholarship fund.
The details of how this will be administered and how to determine the recipients
and amount(s) will be worked out by a committee of 5 appointed by Loyd.
Here
is a list of those who have been appointed and have agreed to serve on the
committee. As for a local person to be assigned, Loyd Waters will either serve
or get one of our local classmates to do so.
Some ideas and/or suggestions have been received on how we might set up
scholarship fund. This information will turned over to that committee for their
consideration.
