We are looking
forward to the reunion. By
we, I mean Sherry and I. We
met at Texas Tech in 1959, married in 1962, and graduated Tech in 1963.
Sherry’s degree is in Home Economics and mine in Mechanical
Engineering. At this point in
life, it is difficult to write a biography without including your mate of
forty-one years. We adopted a son
Chris, in 1965 while living in Kansas.
About a year later we discovered Chris was a special needs child.
His needs have greatly influenced where we focused our attention
and energies. Chris went
through the public school system in special education classes and is
presently attending the Pampa Sheltered Workshop. I accepted a job with
Cities Service Gas Company, (a natural gas transmission company), upon
graduation and worked until 1974 ending that career in Oklahoma City as
senior design engineer. The
large corporate setting, big city, and commuting on the “ant trails”
were not for me. We moved back to
Pampa into the family construction business in 1974.
J. E. Carlson, Inc. focuses mainly on natural gas transmission
facilities such as compressor stations, gas processing plants, etc.
I am still active in construction, and we just completed our
sixty-sixth year as a company. I am active in First
Baptist Church, the community, and programs for the special needs and
handicapped people. Pampa is
still a civic-minded community; however, there is less interest and help
serving the community as people change with the times. July 12, 2002 Chris
was admitted to I.C.U. at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with
aspiration pneumonia. Sherry
and I spent the next seven months with one or both of us with Chris 24-7
in critical care, normal hospital care, and a nursing home.
He is now at home with some very demanding health care needs.
He has greatly improved and exceeded any of his doctor’s
expectations. He is a tough
little guy. Sherry’s and my health has been good and I give thanks to God every day. I will probably have to limit my participation in the 45th celebration; however, if we don’t get to visit enough, come by the house. Yes, we’re in the book. |
